Supplier Spotlight 2023 – Cornish Cheese Company

Cornish Cheese Company

Cornish Blue was the first cheese produced at stansfield's farm on bodmin moor in 2001.

It was due to milk prices collapsing that the family decided it was time to look at another way to gain revenue.

It was when they realised there was no blue cheese being produced in Cornwall, that they found a gap in the market and Phillip Stansfield enrolled on a cheesemaking course.
They then turned a former bottling plant into a cheese production facility, where Cornish Blue was then born!

Based on the edge of Bodmin Moor, Knowle Farm is a perfect location for cheesemaking due to the very moist climate which makes for good pasture which is important for the local milk that goes into the cheese.

Once the cheese is made they are stored in the maturing room for 12 to 14 weeks, being turned weekly so that moisture is evenly distributed throughout the cheese.

2004 saw them win their very first award – The Tesco cheese challenge. Soon after winning Supreme Champion at the Bath and West Show.
2010 Cornish Blue became the World Champion Cheese.

2017 Cornish Nanny was introduced, a goats cheese version of the Cornish Blue.
Using local goat farmers milk, providing a rich and creamy flavour with nutty after taste.
Another award winning cheese, with many awards won over the years.

2021 saw the stylish new branding, in celebration of their 20th anniversary.
We love the new branding,  the colours being very modern, simple and fitting in with their Cornish routes!

In the Summer of 2021 they completed the build on their second production room allowing them to increase their range into soft cheese which lead them to began trials on their very own Cornish Brie later in 2021.

We were delighted when they announced they were releasing their very own Soft Brie, the timing couldn’t be better as the previous supplier who produced a very popular Cornish Brie stopped producing so we very pleased to be able to offer a new Cornish Brie. A great addition for Cornish Cheese to add to their range.

Cornish Brie

Cornish Brie has a delicious mild and creamy flavour and melting, smooth texture with a characteristic yellow, buttery colour.

Designed to be eaten as a young cheese, Cornish Blue is a very different product from traditional English blue cheeses. Its flavour is mild and creamy, with a dense texture and buttery richness, instead of the ‘salty tang’ common of other traditional blue cheeses it has a gentle sweetness.

Cornish Nanny

Cornish Nanny is a blue goats cheese which is an addition of our very own Cornish Blue and is designed to be eaten as a young cheese.
It’s a very creamy blue cheese with a nutty after taste to create a complex flavour profile in the mouth.
