History

Kitto’s Fine Westcountry Hams was established back in 1986 as the Peter Kitto Cooked Meat Company by Peter Kitto and Norman Walker. Based in Cattedown Plymouth where it remains today, Kitto’s produced cooked hams, pork, garlic sausage and haslet but in 1990 the decision was made made to specialise only in high quality gammon hams. Sadly Peter died from cancer in 1997 but his traditional recipes and methods are still in use by the company today.

In 2003 Richard Davy was appointed General Manager and was responsible for expanding Kitto’s Ham and fine tuning quality standards to ensure consistency from texture and flavour to the size of the hams. At this time their customer base also increased and the hams began to be recognised with awards including their Westcountry Honeyroast and Finest Devon Ham which were awarded a Gold and Silver award respectively at the “Great Tate Awards” in 2005.

Kitto’s Ham and Orchardlea

We have been stocking Kitto’s ham since the very beginning of Orchardlea. Our customers love the flavour of the hams and the mixture of pack sizes available means that there is something to suit everyone from restaurants and cafes requiring whole hams to small community shops only requiring one of two packs of sliced ham per week. We stock the following products from Kitto:

Devon Cured Premium Ham

By far our bestselling ham this one is massaged to give it extra tenderness and flavour. It is available in whole 5-6kg joints or in retail packs of 120g with an average of 3 slices per pack. Due to demand we are also now stocking this ham in a slightly bigger pack size of 250g with an average 6 slices per pack.

Premium Honey Roast Ham

This sweet cured ham is glazed with demerara sugar and honey before roasting which results in an attractive dark edge and full flavoured interior.
