The big day is fast approaching and to help you make the most of this festive season we’re highlighting our top picks from our 2021 Christmas brochure!
Today we’re focusing on cheese. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without cheese in our house but with so many cheeses available which ones should you go for? We’ve listed our favourites below.
Blue Cheese – Blue cheeses have so much flavour and provide the tangy creaminess to a cheeseboard. We like traditional blue STILTON which is wonderfully moreish, robust and full flavoured with a bit of bite when matured. In contrast the DORSET BLUE VINNY is mellow and creamy with a delightfully crumbly texture. Another favourite is the DEVON BLUE which is sweet and mellow with a close, moist texture.
Soft Cheese – Soft cheeses brie and camembert are real winners at Christmas. The SHARPHAM BRIE is rich and sweet with an intensely creamy flavour. The SOMERSET CAMEMBERT is rich and buttery with a soft edible white rind – perfect for serving at a party with some crusty bread for dunking. The ROULE is smooth and creamy and flavoured with garlic and herbs. CAPRICORN is a great choice for goats cheese lovers, it is a mild cheese with wonderful creamy flavours.
Waxed Truckles – The Snowdonia Cheese Company truckles are available all year round and their vibrant colours look great on a cheeseboard. Not just content with looking great the flavours are also delicious. Varieties include the classic BLACK BOMBER (EXTRA MATURE), BEECHWOOD (SMOKED MATURE CHEDDAR), RUBY MIST (CHEDDAR WITH BRANDY & PORT), NATURE’S NECTAR (CHEDDAR WITH FIGS, HONEY & RUM), BOUNCING BERRY (CHEDDAR WITH BERRIES) and AMBER MIST (CHEDDAR WITH WHISKY). New for this year Snowdonia have also released ROCKSTAR, a rich cave aged Cheddar. These are all available in individual 200g truckles.
Flavoured Cheeses – In our experience Christmas is a time when people are open to experimentation with cheese flavours. Enter our range of flavoured cheeses! This year we have the APPLE, CINNAMON & RAISIN CHEESE back in stock, deliciously creamy Lancashire cheese combined with apples, cinnamon and raisins. This is basically Christmas pudding in a cheese, trust us it works! Other flavours include CHEDDAR & PICKLED ONION, SOMERSET HERB & CIDER, SCORPION (HOT CHEESE) and ROYAL RED (CHEDDAR WITH PORT). These are all available in both bulk 1kg half moons as well as 150g retail packs.
