5 Christmas cheeseboards for every cheese lover

Cheeseboards are a delicious treat at any time of year but especially so at Christmas. One of lifes simple pleasures is a platter of cheese, chutney and crackers with a glass of port or rich red wine and at Christmas we allow ourselves to be particularly decadent. 

Here we’ve selected four different styles of cheeseboards featuring a variety of our cheeses for your own cheeseboard inspiration.  Enjoy! 

The Devon One

This selection brings together the best Devon Cheeses.

From Sharpham Cheese near Totnes we have the Sharpham Rustic with Chive & Garlic. The Rustic is crumbly and delicate with slight citrus undertones, this is perfectly complimented by the savoury herbs and garlic.

From Curworthy Cheese near Okehampton we have the Devon Oke. This is a full fat hard cheese with mellow, buttery flavours.

From Ticklemore Cheese Dairy in Totnes we have the Beenleigh Blue. This ewes milk cheese is slightly crumbly with sweet, lemon flavours.

Again from Sharpham Cheese we have the Sharpham Brie. This brie is mould ripened in the Coulommier style and is firm, rich and creamy when young softening into savoury  mushroom flavours with age.

From Quicke’s near Exeter we have the Extra Mature Cheddar. Typically matured for 18 months this Cheddar is wonderfully rich with complex buttery flavours.

The Classic One

This selection combines traditional cheeseboard staples.

This Tuxford & Tebbutt Blue Stilton is rich and creamy with distinctive blue veining and a crumbly texture.

The Haystack Tasty from Barber’s Cheesemakers in Somerset is a fantastic mature Cheddar with a creamy, close texture and rich flavours.

The Sharpham Rustic with Chive & Garlic is creamy and crumbly with savoury herbs and garlic.

The Wensleydale & Cranberry is one of our favourite fruity cheeses. It is a mellow and creamy cheese punctuated by bursts of sweetness from the cranberries.

The Sharpham Brie is soft and creamy with a lovely rich flavour.

The Herb One

This selection combines the savoury flavours of herb cheeses.

From Curworthy Cheese near Okehampton this Curworthy Chipple is mild and creamy with spring onion and chives.

From Lynher Dairies in Cornwall we have the Garlic Yarg. This is made to the traditional Yarg recipe before being wrapped in wild garlic leaves. These impart a gentle garlic flavour and firm up the texture of the cheese.

From the Somerset Cheese Company in, surprise, Somerset we have the Somerset Herb & Cider. This is a creamy mature cheese with a delicious combination of savoury herb and sweet cider flavours.

From Sharpham Cheese we have the Rustic with Chive & Garlic. Flavoured with chives and fresh garlic this is a distinctly savoury cheese.

The Sage Derby from Calveley Mill is a traditional mild Derby cheese blended with sage.

The Chilli One

This selection is perfect for adventurous chilli and cheese lovers.

From the Snowdonia Cheese Company we have the Red Devil. This Red Leicester is blended with Habanero chillies, peppers and spices. It has a complex depth of flavour and irresistible chilli heat.

New from Calveley Mill we have the Burner cheddar. This mature cheddar is blended with crushed jalapeno and red bell peppers. 

Scorpion Cheese is also one of our new varieties from Calveley Mill. This is our hottest cheese packed with Trinidad scorpion chilli, jalapeno and red bell peppers and Chile de Arbol hot pepper. Not for the faint hearted!

From Calveley Mill we have the Fiery Dragon cheddar. This is a mature cheddar cheese blended with red bell peppers.

The Cheese Lovers One

We often get asked what cheeses we would recommend for a cheeseboard. This one encompasses what we usually answer – a blue, a cheddar, a flavoured, a smoked and a soft, plus an unusual one.

From the Snowdonia Cheese Company we have the Beechwood. This mature cheddar is naturally smoked over beechwood to create a sweet and mellow cheese with distinctive smoky flavours.

Sharpham Brie is a rich and creamy soft option.

Wensleydale & Cranberry is mellow and creamy with sweet bursts of cranberry.

Beenleigh Blue is a sweet and crumbly ewes milk cheese.

Haystack Tasty is a rich and creamy cheddar with complex flavours and a close texture.

The Garlic Yarg from Lynher Dairies is mild and delicate with mellow garlic flavours.

The Blue Stilton from Tuxford & Tebbutt is rich and creamy with delicate blue veining and a slight tang. 

The Rustic with Chive & Garlic is delicate and crumbly with savoury herb flavours.
