JACKSONS FISHMONGERS

We’ve launched our new product guide! Featuring the best producers from around the South West we thought we would take this opportunity to give them a shout out. Today we’re shining the spotlight on Jacksons Fishmongers.

Jacksons Fishmongers have been supplying us with their smoked fish range almost since the beginning of Orchardlea back in 2012. Our customers love that the fish is locally sourced as well as being locally smoked.

Jacksons Fishmongers themselves are now on their fourth generation and have been in the fish trade for over 90 years. Based in Newton Abbot in beautiful South Devon Jacksons are, like us, a family run operation. Its director Matt joined the family business in 1992 and his son Lewis is set to continue the legacy, bringing innovative and contemporary ideas to the company.

Jacksons Fishmongers

The fish at Jacksons is sourced from the nearby Brixham Market. A renowned fish market dating back to the 14th century, it is now Britain’s largest fish market based by value of fish sold (in 2021 this was a staggering £43,600.000!). Both Brixham Market and Jacksons Fishmongers share an ethos of sustainability and never over fishing. They buy from local day boats which offer the freshest fish whilst reducing their carbon footprint and food miles.

Smoking of the fish takes place on the Jacksons Fishmongers premises in Newton Abbot using the same kiln for the last 60 years. We stock the staples from the smoked fish range including:

Smoked Mackerel 

Traditional smoked mackerel with a real depth of flavour. This makes a perfect smoked mackerel pate, just add creme fraiche, lemon juice, salt and pepper.

Peppered Mackerel

Traditional smoked mackerel coated in whole black peppercorns which give it a slight kick. Try this one simply with buttered new potatoes and greens for a quick and easy supper.
 

Smoked Trout

Trout is such a beautifully delicate fish and this smoked version makes a great alternative to salmon. The smokiness naturally compliments the fishes flavour and this is perfect in a summer salad.

    Hi,

    Me and my partner own a takeaway in woolacombe north devon and we are looking for a new fish supplier, we would be looking for 8kg of lobster daily during the 6 week summer holidays and a supply of crab meat as well as mackerel fillets more frequently during may- October please let me know if this is something that you can supply and a price list would be greatly appreciated.

      Hi Angela,
      Many thanks for your email, we don’t stock a massive range of fish we stock retail packs of Smoked Mackerel, Peppered Mackerel, Trout fillets, we can also get kippers too from Jacksons. It would be worth contacting them directly about the other fish but I am unsure of their full range.

      There may be some other products we do that could be of interest for your cafe, I have also emailed over our full product range and prices. Any questions please just ask.
